GOVERNOR CRIST APPOINTS JOANNA CUNNINGHAM TO FLORIDA COMMISSION ON HUMAN RELATIONS

Cunningham will serve on the Commission to work toward fair treatment, equal access and mutual respect for the people of Florida

Tallahassee – Governor Charlie Crist has appointed Joanna Cunningham as a Commissioner of the Florida Commission on Human Relations (FCHR). Upon Senate approval, Commissioner Cunningham will serve a term expiring September 30, 2013.

“We are very pleased to have Joanna Cunningham as an addition to the Commission,” said Derick Daniel, Executive Director of the Commission. “Her dedication to her community will play an instrumental role in our efforts to improve the state of Florida for all who live and work here.”

Joanna Cunningham has over 15 years of experience in federal, state and local government. She is a member of MENSA, the Florida, Palm Beach County and International Municipal Clerks Associations, has served on the Village of Wellington Education Committee and was previously appointed to the Legislative Committee on Intergovernmental Relations. She is currently the Town Clerk for the Town of Palm Beach and a licensed realtor.

The Commission consists of 12 commissioners of various racial, religious, ethnic, social, economic, political and professional groups within the state, all appointed to four-year terms by the Governor subject to Senate approval.

The Florida Commission on Human Relations, established in 1969, is the state agency charged with enforcing the Florida Civil Rights Act and Fair Housing Act. Fair treatment, equal access and mutual respect are the benchmarks of the Commission’s commitment. Through education, outreach and partnerships, the Commission works to prevent discrimination through teaching best practices and fostering mutual understanding in communities statewide.
