Duties and Responsibilities
Manages the Employment Investigations Unit consisting of Investigation Specialist I’s and II’s and other staff engaged in resolving employment discrimination complaints filed under Chapter 760, Florida Statutes, Part I: Florida Civil Rights Act. This position reports to the General Counsel.
- Plans and manages unit workload and work objectives; sets goals to comply with statutory guidelines for case completion. Reviews and approves staff determinations and investigative memorandums for quality and timeliness. Responds to written and telephonic inquiries related to complaints assigned to the unit. Supervises the drafting of subpoenas, interrogatories and requests for information; directs unit members in obtaining and evaluating documentary evidence to ensure that investigations conducted by the unit are in compliance with established agency and other relevant procedures and standards
- Evaluates employees in accordance with established criteria; meets regularly with employees to establish and monitor complaint processing goals, insuring that quality, quantity and timeliness standards are met; supervises and participates where appropriate, in interviews of complainants, witnesses, respondents and representatives of participants in complaints of employment discrimination, maintains log of unit work; updates the case tracking system.
- Maintains and prepares statistical reports and reviews reports submitted by unit members. Analyzes reports; discern trends and takes appropriate action to improve conditions; makes recommendations to the General Counsel.
- Develops and conducts training programs for staff. Implements education and outreach programs to provide training and information to complainants, respondents and the general public on employment discrimination laws. Directs the compilation and review of various statistical reports prepared by unit members and other investigators for a monthly report to the Executive Director.
- Interviews applicants for investigator positions, makes recommendations for the hire of new employees; approves leave and attendance requests; manages other policies and procedures for the unit; recommends commendations and disciplinary actions, promotions and discharges of unit personnel.
- Communicates with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and other federal, state and local agencies on issues regarding efficiency, trends, best practices and other related issues.
- Sets goals for Title VII, Non-title VII and ADEA complains and maintaining a file of complaints for timely assignment to investigators.
- Supervises the preparation of investigatory reports and approves or disapproves recommended actions relating to assigned complaints.
Successful completion of a background/fingerprint screening is required.
