In her role as Executive Director, Michelle Wilson supervises day-to-day operations of the Florida Commission on Human Relations. She directs all management areas – including administration, information technology, quality control, human resources, communications and research – and oversees legal and investigation activities in conjunction with the Commission’s general counsel.
Wilson served as FCHR’s budget director for 10 years before Commissioners unanimously selected her to be Executive Director in December 2011. She succeeded long-time director Derick Daniel, who retired earlier that year.
A Gainesville native who spent most of her childhood in Tampa, Wilson earned a bachelor’s degree in business economics from Florida A&M University. She worked in budget-related positions for the Senate Appropriations Committee, the Governor’s Office and the state Department of Management Services before coming to FCHR as budget director in 2001.
During her time at FAMU, she also met her husband Errol. The couple, who have been married more than 20 years, lives in Wakulla County with their three teenage children.
